----------------------------------
WANDERER is an Amiga port of a game originally written for UNIX.
If you've played Boulderdash or Emerald Mines, you can see where
the inspiration for WANDERER came from. The original UNIX version
used a simple ASCII display. I've added color graphics and sound
to give the game a more stylish look. The game is controlled from
the keyboard (sorry, no joystick or rodent support in this version).
After you've started the game, press the HELP key for instructions.
The following files are included in this distribution:
readme
wanderer
wanderer.info
wandhelp.data
screen.doc
screens/screen.1 through screen.14
fonts/wanderer.font
fonts/wanderer/8
sounds/lots of sound files
The files in the "fonts" directory should be copied into your
FONTS: directory. The game will run ok if you don't do this, but
the maps will look prettier if you do.
Sound files for WANDERER are contained in the "sounds" directory.
The sound files are large, so they're being distributed in a
separate .zoo file that you should be able to download from the
same place you got this file. The game will run without the sound
files present, but it's much more fun with all the sounds! The
following sound files are included in the "sounds" directory:
clock, death, exit, kaboom, cage, teleport, arrow,
diamond, deadmonster, munch, boulder, push, step
WANDERER is best run from the Workbench. If you run it from CLI,
you first need to set the stack to a huge value (30000 works well).
You can create your own screens easily. See the screens.doc file
for details.
The UNIX version of WANDERER was written by Steven Shipway at Warwick
University, and was distributed through USENET. The Amiga version
was ported by Alan Bland, with some useful suggestions from Ken Fricklas.
Sound files were stolen from various public domain sources. Enjoy!
